history

In 816, Schönebürg appears for the first time as a place name in a document from the Prince Abbey of St. Gallen , which at that time was already in possession of local goods. The name at that time indicates the great wealth of beautiful birch trees in the Rottumtal ( sconiunebirich = "beautiful birch").

At the Second World War (1939-1945) 159 citizens took part, of which 38 fell and missed the 20th

On April 1, 1972, Schönebürg was incorporated into Schwendi.
