The Schönfuß-Röhrling or Dickfuß-Röhrling ( Caloboletus calopus , syn .: Boletus calopus ) is a type of mushroom from the family of the thick bolete relatives (Boletaceae).
features
The Schönfuß-Röhrling forms large fruiting bodies with a hat width of 5–20, in exceptional cases up to 25 cm. The hat is hemispherical to cushion-shaped and does not become flatter even in older specimens, the color of the top of the hat can range from clay brown to milk coffee-colored, light to brownish-gray, more rarely reddish to olive-brown specimens are possible. When young, the surface of the hat is fine, velvety felt, it becomes bald with age. The stem is about 5–15 cm long and 1–4.5 cm thick, it can be slender to thick, walnut, club-shaped or bulbous. At the top it is colored yellow, below this area there is a striking carmine-red zone that can fade due to the action of the sun, the base of the stem is brownish. The stem is covered with a relatively coarse, light to brownish-yellow net. The tube layer is yellow and soon takes on an olive shade when the spores are ripe, the pores are the same color, they change color clearly to blue when pressed. The same blue coloration of the Amylon reaction also shows the otherwise yellow meat, often reddish purple in the base of the handle, which immediately turns a strong blue when broken or cut. The meat tastes very bitter and has no specific odor.
ecology
Like all thick boletus, the Schönfuß bolete also forms mycorrhiza with trees, whereby it can be associated with both deciduous and coniferous trees. Norway spruce and red beech were found to be the most common partner trees in Baden-Württemberg , followed by pines . According to the type of mycorrhizal partner, the Schönfuß-Röhrling occurs in spruce-fir forests and various beech forests. With regard to the soil , his demands are low, with acidic soils being preferred to neutral and basic soils. The species is mainly widespread in higher altitudes of the low mountain range, in lower altitudes it is very rare. It appears from July to December.
distribution
It is evidently a European type of mushroom that is distributed from the Mediterranean to Northern Europe, but mainly occurs in the temperate zone and prefers montane areas. In Germany, it is listed in risk group 3 on the red list .
meaning
The Schönfuß Röhrling tastes very bitter and is considered to be slightly poisonous, so it is out of the question as an edible mushroom.
