Schönow is a district of the municipality of Passow in the Uckermark district in Brandenburg . The village is 4.5 km northeast of the core area of Passow.

history

Schönow belonged to the province of Pomerania until 1945 . Schönow was in the Randow district and when it was dissolved in 1939 it came to the Greifenhagen district . There were no other places to live in the community of Schönow.

Gut Schönow belonged to the von Sydow family from 1262 to 1863 . The manor with its farm buildings was built in the 18th century. Today's neo-Gothic castle was built around 1840. In 1863 the estate was sold to the cavalry master Gustav Karl Kieckebusch from Schwedt / Oder for 170,000 thalers. Around 1892 the chamberlain, Kurt Gustav von Lettow-Vorbeck, became landlord. Until the expropriation in 1945, the estate was owned by Bernd v. Lettow-Vorbeck.

In the course of the land reform, the estate was settled. The manor house was unused for a long time and was for sale until it was acquired by the current owners in 2014. It is rented out for events.

railway station

Schönow (Uckerm) is connected to the rail network via the Berlin – Szczecin line (km 94.7). It is a stopping point of category 7 with a platform track which of the local train line 66 RB and individual regional express trains on those on the relation between Berlin-Gesundbrunnen and Szczecin Główny will operate operated.

After the Szczecin Railway went into operation in 1843, no trains stopped at Schönow. In 1895 today's Passow district was equipped with a breakpoint. On April 1, 1934, the stop was also opened to passenger traffic, it had two tracks and two platforms. In 1937 the stop was moved behind the road crossing to Blumberg. The already existing stationkeeper's house was expanded to become a station building. In 1938 the stop was expanded to include a loading platform and a head ramp. The second track was dismantled due to reparations payments to the Soviet Union . Through the station building, which is no longer used today, there is only access to the platform track.

Since 2013, the Brandenburg Ministry of Infrastructure has been advising on unprofitable train stations and stops in the state. According to an analysis by VBBs, there are around 60 train stations in Brandenburg where fewer than 50 passengers get on and off every day. Therefore, it was speculated several times about a possible closure of the stations. Hans-Werner Franz, the managing director of the VBB, rejected these speculations. All stations on the Szczecin Railway in the Uckermark district were also on the list of these 60 stations . These include Casekow , Petershagen (Uckerm), Passow (Uckerm) and Schönow (Kr Uckerm).
