Löberitz Chess Museum

The Löberitz Chess Museum is a regional museum in the town of Zörbig (village of Löberitz ) in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district , Saxony-Anhalt .

Foundation / development

The museum is sponsored by the 1871 Löberitz chess community.

From 2003 to 2007 expansion, renovation, modernization and furnishing of the available rooms took place. Above all, the Löberitz local researcher Konrad Reiß promoted the establishment and establishment of the chess museum in Löberitz. In May 2002 the German Chess Federation expressed its gratitude and recognition in the form of an honorary certificate.

The opening of the Löberitz Chess Museum took place on June 1, 2007 as part of the 800th anniversary celebration of Löberitz.

Scope of collection and exhibition

The museum sees itself as the center of chess history research between Naumburg , Halle , Magdeburg and Dessau . In an extensive library also other than books chess newspapers and chess chronicles kept.

An exhibition will be presented on the 125-year chess history of the Saale Chess Federation. There are chess pieces and boards from three centuries, chess clocks , pennants, badges and medals, certificates and trainer ID cards, with most of the exhibits having a regional reference. Historical (for example made of cast iron ) and homemade chess sets from prison camps are on display , as well as a collection of chairs on which prominent chess players have sat. The first GDR chess computer , a collection of chess stamps, an extensive chess chronicle and selected chess literature are also on display .
