Schicklerhaus
The Schicklerhaus is a building complex built in 1910 in the neoclassical style in the Mitte district of Berlin , not far from the Jannowitzbrücke . The building takes its name from the Schicklerstrasse that runs here; the name was given after reunification to better market the property and has no reference to the Schickler brothers' former banking house .

The Schicklerhaus is located in the street block Schicklerstraße (5–7), Littenstraße , Voltairestraße and the route of the regional and light railroad , in the neighborhood numerous regional and supra-regional authorities and administrations have their seat. From the underground stations Jannowitzbrücke ( line U8 ) and Klosterstraße ( Line U2 ) and the Jannowitzbrücke S-Bahn station are just a few minutes away. A bus line is around 150 meters away. The Nikolaiviertel , the Spree and the Alexanderplatz are tourist attractions in the vicinity of the building.
Building history and use of the house
The Hiller & Kuhlmann company built the commercial building in 1910 on an area of 4360 m² with three main and four atriums. Shops were located on the ground floor, while offices for various companies or parties were on the other floors. From 1917 the Berlin office of the USPD was located here. From 1930 to 1933 the Marxist Workers' School (MASCH) , founded in 1926, used some of the rooms in the house, where Albert Einstein and Hermann Duncker also gave lectures on popular science.
After 1945, the war-damaged building was initially occupied by the German Internal and External Food Trade (DIA) by order of the Allied Command Office in Berlin .
For a long time there was a memorial plaque in the office building, which announced to the visitors that here on 26./27. October 1918 the founding congress of the FSJ took place and at which Karl Liebknecht spoke to the delegates.
During the GDR era , the foreign trade companies Fruchtimpex , Germed , the Deutsche Export- und Importgesellschaft Feinmechanik - Optik and the LIMEX Außenhandelsgesellschaft mbH were based in this building complex.
After reconstruction and renovation in the years 1997–1999 by the engineering office Pilz (technical services), the Schicklerhaus served the group management of Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) until around 2005 . After the DB moved out, some small companies came into this house such as an event company, a travel agency and others. Since 2007, other companies have moved in, including the service company Vamed Deutschland GmbH . In 2008, Daimler AG followed , which had set up its new shared service center for accounting functions (Daimler Group Services Berlin GmbH) here by the end of the year . In mid-2009, the IT company Defrax Business Solutions GmbH , an advertising agency, moved into the premises. On January 1, 2010, the German Travel Association (DRV) moved into new offices in the Schicklerhaus with its office and subsidiary, DRV Service GmbH . The Berlin location of the Öko-Institut and the engineering office LK Argus GmbH are also located in the Schicklerhaus.
At the end of 2017, Signa Holding owned by Tyrolean Rene Benko acquired the Schicklerhaus. A conversion including a three-story increase is planned.
Equipment of the Schicklerhaus
The facade of the house with six floors is clad with natural stone; a separate two-story glass tower stands on a corner part of the building. The spacious foyer , which was equipped with imitation marble columns and a fanned glass ceiling and in which works by young artists were shown, was completely redesigned in the 2010s. In addition to a reception with a porter, the foyer now includes several seating areas. The building has a gross floor area of 13,500 m². Five elevators, soundproof aluminum window elements with electrically operated external blinds and a heating system are state-of-the-art.
