Ship surfing

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under ship surfing (also called "ship to swim" or "pots" of Pott) refers to the approach of swimming, boarding , and (usually) brief passengers on vessels of commercial shipping . The term ship surfing came about - probably based on S-Bahn surfing - in the early 1990s.

In contrast to so-called S-Bahn surfing, ship surfing is not a test of courage, but - depending on your point of view - tradition , sport or even “life-threatening bad habits”. In fact, there is evidence of ships floating at least until the 1950s.

Originally, the barges were used by tow trains or rafts to travel along. Since there was only one tug , often driving far ahead, there was hardly any risk to the swimmers. It became more dangerous when motor ships and push convoys appeared , as these drove considerably faster. Accordingly, the ship was and is being followed by the water police .

Sources prove that ships for the Danube near Vienna , the Rhine near Düsseldorf and the upper Havel between Hennigsdorf and Oranienburg , the Rhine-Herne Canal and the Datteln-Hamm Canal , the Wesel-Datteln Canal and the entire Dortmund Ems Canal between Dortmund and Münster .
