Schlehecken is a district in the Bensberg district of Bergisch Gladbach .
history
The name of the settlement Schlehecken takes up the former name Auf der Schlehecken , which is recorded in the original cadastre north of today's Wipperfürther Straße. The qualifier Schleh is etymologically related to the Middle High German plant name "slêhe" (= sloe) and means the sloe or blackthorn bush. Consequently, it could have been a hedge made of sloe bushes that served to delimit a field.
