Location of France in Bergisch Gladbach

France is a district in the Bensberg district of the city of Bergisch Gladbach in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

Location and description

France lies in the Milchborntal on the Milchborntalweg and Hardtweg roads . It now forms a closed settlement area with the surrounding districts, so that it is no longer perceived independently.

history

The majority of the Italian and French plasterers employed in the construction of the new Bensberg Castle settled permanently on the north side of the hill of the castle in the Freiheit Bensberg . This settlement received the name of Little France or France from its inhabitants .

Under the French administration between 1806 and 1813 the Porz office was dissolved and France was politically assigned to Mairie Bensberg in the canton of Bensberg . In 1816 the Prussians converted the Mairie to the mayor's office in Bensberg in the Mülheim am Rhein district .

The place is recorded without a name on the Prussian first recording from 1840. From 1892 onwards, when the Prussian was added, it is regularly recorded on table sheets as France or without a name.

Due to the Cologne Act , the city of Bensberg was merged with Bergisch Gladbach to form the city of Bergisch Gladbach with effect from January 1, 1975. France also became part of Bergisch Gladbach.

Ecclesiastically, France has always been part of the Catholic parish of Bensberg.
