Achleiten Castle near Limbach

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schloss Achleiten is a castle in Lower Austria District Amstetten . It is located in the northwest of Limbach, a cadastral community of Strengberg .

history

The Bavarian Benedictine monastery Tegernsee already owned land in the community before 1011 . Through an exchange of goods with the German King Heinrich II , it was able to increase the area by 60 Königshufen. The monastery established his rule Achleiten here , the center of which was the castle that Georg Matthäus Vischer drew in 1672.

The facility, which was fortified with towers , was located near the Danube and was constantly threatened by flooding . From 1727 to 1734 Abbot Gregor I. Plaichshirn had today's castle built on the safe place of a farmhouse. It served the Tegernsee Benedictines as a summer residence until 1803. In 1836 it came into the possession of the Barons von Blomberg . These had the castle chapel removed. The church objects were given to the local priest. The altarpiece of St. Nicholas, for example, hangs in the chapel of today's community kindergarten. In 1861 the last component was demolished with a round tower . In 1894 the castle was sold to Jaromír von Škoda, the brother of the founder of the Škoda Works , Emil von Škoda . The barons of Weichs eventually inherited the estate and are still the owners of the property today.
