The original castle was surrounded by a wide moat , a rampart and a dry moat. It was accessible through a drawbridge with a gatehouse and gateway. It had a square keep , which has been preserved to this day. In the 16th century the castle was converted into a palace. The west wing with a basement was retained and converted into a three-story mansion . Part of the moat has also been preserved on the west side of the castle. Worth mentioning is the stair tower in the Renaissance style with slanted windows and a Welschen dome . Some parts of the building were added in the 17th and 18th centuries and others were demolished in the 1760s. In 1985 and 1986 the palace complex was repaired and the roof of the manor house was also renovated from 2010 to 2012.

Castle Park

The palace has a park that goes back to a baroque garden created by Ernst von Steinberg . In the second half of the 18th century there was an over-planning by the royal court building and gardening director Karl von Hardenberg and his court architect Johann Paul Heumann . Around 1830, the head of the royal garden department Philipp von Steinberg and the horticultural artist Franz Christian Schaumburg designed the garden as an English landscape garden , which corresponded to the zeitgeist. Rare trees and shrubs are grouped around a central pond, on whose peninsula historical tomb relief panels have been placed around a central memorial. In 2006 the landscape park was restored.
