Freydegg Castle is in the northwest of the market town of Ferschnitz in the Amstetten district in Lower Austria on the road to St. Georgen am Ybbsfelde . The tower of the castle is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

Documented in 1332, Ludwig von Zelking was named in 1339 and Hans Strein von Schwarzenau was named in 1432 . With 1574 Reichard Strein von Schwarzenau . 1616 Hans Joachim von Zinzendorf . 1678 to 1937 the Counts of Starhemberg .

According to two remarkable inscription panels above the side portals, one of them in an antique frame, the castle was built under Reichard Strein von Schwarzenau on the remains of a previous building from 1575 to 1584.

From the former, extensive fortified palace complex of the Renaissance - which has been in disrepair since the 18th century - a gate tower and the components adjoining it to the side as well as parts of a former utility wing have been preserved.

After 1960, the complex was turned into a romantic pasticcio with rarities and collectibles .

The four-storey rectangular gate tower from the fourth quarter of the 16th century shows a rustik base on the ground floor and a portal rustik frame on the back with original plaster from the 16th century with scratched ashlar. The wooden attic is from the middle of the 20th century. The barrel vault of the passage has stitch caps. On the first floor there are round arch niches with terracotta shells above two male and female terracotta portrayals from the fourth quarter of the 16th century, the wooden ceiling with carved beams shows the year 1866. Former small granite columns serve in secondary use as window frames and in the garden.

The elongated, two-storey, undivided former utility wing in the core from the fourth quarter of the 16th century shows plaster from the 17th and 18th centuries with incised ashlar . Inside there are some wooden beams and wooden portals and lunette tons and groin vault from the fourth quarter of the 16th century and a former black kitchen.
