history

In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .

The Ferschnitzbach is mentioned for the first time in 1034 and formed the eastern border of the Freising area against the Regensburg possessions. The place Ferschnitz took over the name of the brook and should have originated in the 12th century. The place was first mentioned in 1345.

A little later, the aristocratic family of the Zelking family became owners of the nearby Freidegg Castle . Large flower reached Freidegg and the place Ferschnitz 1575-1600 under the famous scholar and statesman Reichard Streun Schwarzenau from the family of the von Streun ( Strein (noble family) ), which at the court of Emperor Maximilian II. And Rudolf II. , A leading position was active. Freidegg was his favorite place.

At the intercession of Reichard Streun, the town of Ferschnitz also received market rights in 1589 .

The splendidly situated and artfully furnished (similar to the Schallaburg ) Castle Freidegg fell into disrepair after the death of the famous landlord († 1600). From 1678 to 1937 the Starhemberg owned Freidegg. Today only a gate tower and part of the former farm building remain .

Culture and sights

  • Catholic parish church Ferschnitz hl. Sixtus II .: The parish church of St. Sixtus II . shows a late Gothic chancel ( Choir) with expansion in the late Renaissance 1575 and from 1770 and a high altar the Austrian painter Martin John Smith , also known as Kremser Schmidt . The history of the parish can only be traced back to the 14th century, around the same time that the two stately palaces of Freidegg and Senftenegg can be traced. The Lords of Zelking made the first donations to the parish church in 1352. An old inscription stated that the church was built in 1425. However, this was probably just a structural extension. Three art-historical sections are represented, the late Gothic choir building, the expansion of the Renaissance and the baroque furnishings. The late Gothic choir room with ribbed vaults and sacristy portal is the beginning of a series of developments in special forms that demonstrate the influence of the Steyrer Hütte in the Amstetten area . The Protestant extension during the Renaissance only refers to the nave of the church (grave monuments of the Streun family - former Freidegg Castle). The year 1575 is written on the triumphal arch . The gable-crowned west portal and the former cemetery portal with the terracotta coat of arms also belong to this period . The grave monuments of the Streun family from the 16th century are also known. The baroque interior gives the Protestant church, in which the Catholic church service was demonstrably celebrated again after 1630 , a new look and with the redesign of the choir in 1770 by Peter Wisgrill from St. Pölten , it gave it an artistic effect. The high altar picture, the beheading of St. Sixtus II , is dated 1770 and comes from Martin Johann Schmidt.
  • Catholic branch church Innerochsenbach hl. Martin
  • Senftenegg Castle : Senftenegg Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1367 with a Hans Häusler , who was then followed in the order of ownership by the Zelking (Zelkinger) and Puchheim (noble family) . This was followed by a rapid and numerous change of ownership. From 1795 to 1934 the plant was then owned by Starhemberg . Karl Friedrich von Frank , the father of the current owner Karl Frank, was a well-known genealogist and heraldist. Around 1900 he also painted the coats of arms of the previous castle owners in the arcade on the upper floor of the castle. He brought u. a. the well-known Senftenegger sheets on genealogy . The main entrance of the castle was secured by a once very deep moat , over which a movable bridge led. The main entrance was flanked by two lateral round towers , which can still be seen today. Unfortunately, nothing is left of the former keep , which dates back to the time of Hans Häusler. It was removed up to roof level and integrated into the castle. It was located next to the chapel inside the castle, on the southeast corner of the square group of buildings. The castle courtyard is accessed through a gate tower , which is noticeable due to its high pyramid roof. In the inner courtyard there is a portico with arcades above , which were decorated by Karl Friedrich von Frank with the coats of arms of the former castle owners. Senftenegg was famous for its extensive library. The castle is surrounded by an English garden in which the greenhouse and the orangery have been preserved in addition to the old trees .
  • Freydegg Castle : Only a small part of the once famous magnificent building by Richard von Streun remains today. The front building with the adjoining four-story tower has been preserved. The porch has a round arched portal with two red marble panels , vaulted rooms on the ground floor and an entrance with a barrel vault . Occurs in documents Freydegg the first time in 1339 under a Heinrich von Zelking in appearance. In 1575 Richard von Streun had the entire complex converted into a main castle with a six-story tower, defensive walls and three-story bastion towers. In 1615 Freydegg was owned by the Zinzendorf family (aristocratic family) , in 1629 by Otto Heinrich Fugger zu Kirchberg , from 1678 to 1934 owned by the Starhemberg family and then it went into private hands. The Freydegg u. a. for its furnishing with Egyptian and Indian antiquities.
