The festival in the castle garden (also called the castle garden festival or castle garden festival ) in Neustrelitz is considered to be the largest operetta festival in Germany.

history

The festival in the palace garden was founded by Christoph Dammann, then artistic director of the Landestheater Neustrelitz, together with Lothar Kempf.

Since 2001 the Neustrelitz Castle Park has been the venue for the Castle Garden Festival. Due to the renovation of the castle park, the festival has been taking place on the Schlossberg since 2013, in the immediate vicinity of the Friedrich Wilhelm Buttelschen castle church. The festival series for the 300th anniversary of the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz started with an operetta pasticcio about Queen Luise , specially compiled by Christoph Dammann , with a new text by the author Horst Vincon . In previous years, up to 30,000 spectators attended the festival every year in summer. In 2019 there were around 14,000.

The organizer is Theater und Orchester GmbH Neubrandenburg / Neustrelitz . The productions are created by the in-house music theater ensemble, supported by numerous guests and residents of Neustrelitz as well as the Deutsche Tanzkompanie Neustrelitz and the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic.

Productions

In addition to the operetta productions, children's plays (mostly with music) were also offered (e.g. Ronja the robber's daughter , Peter Pan , The Jungle Book , Pippi Longstocking , Around the World in 80 Days , The Emperor's New Clothes ), either on the main stage in the palace gardens or in a circus tent on the Schlossberg. Concerts by various bands and various gala evenings were also held.
