Promotion opportunities
Both variants of the ascent start in Stechelberg ( 910 m ) and are continuously marked. The two ascent trails branch off above Trachsellauenen ( 1202 m ). The shorter path, which takes about 3½ hours to get to the hut, runs over the Schwand alpine huts and then reaches the Schmadribach just above the Schmadribach falls . The ascent over the Berghotel Obersteinberg ( 1778 m ) and then past the Oberhornsee takes about an hour longer .
Ascents and crossings
The hut is a suitable starting point for ascent of the Breithorn ( 3780 m ), the Grosshorn ( 3754 m ), the Tschingelhorn ( 3562 m ) or the Mittaghorn ( 3892 m ). It is also possible to cross over the Gamchilücke ( 2852 m ) and the ascent to the Mutthornhütte .
