The narrow-flowered grape hyacinth ( Muscari tenuiflorum , syn .: Leopoldia tenuiflora (Tausch) Heldr. ) Is a species of grape hyacinth ( Muscari ) from the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).
features
The narrow-flowered grape hyacinth grows as a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 20 to 50 cm. This geophyte forms onions as persistent organs; she is always white. The basal, linear and smooth-edged leaves are about 2 to 12 mm wide.
The loose, terminal, racemose inflorescence is 10 to 25 mm long. Their upright tuft consists of violet, sterile, slightly longer stalked flowers, while the lower, fertile flowers are greenish-white in color. The hermaphrodite, threefold flowers have a narrow opening. The perigone lobes are black.
This pre-summer green geophyte begins to bloom in early summer and is pollinated by insects. The seeds are dispersed by self, digestive, and wind dispersal.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.
Distribution and location
Muscari tenuiflorum is widespread from Europe through Western Asia to the Caucasus . It colonizes moderately dry, more or less nutrient-rich and base-rich locations on loess- loam and sandy soils, with a focus on limestone grasslands . In terms of plant sociology, her focus is on the plant communities of dry and semi-arid grasslands (Festuco-Brometea) as well as the xerophilic blood cranesbill fringing communities (Geranion sanguinei).
Danger
This species is considered endangered in Central Europe. In Germany the population of the narrow-flowered grape hyacinth is on the decline, it is classified as endangered in the German Red List. The species is specially protected according to the Federal Species Protection Ordinance (BArtSchV).
