Schneckenhofen is a district of the municipality of Bibertal in the Swabian district of Günzburg ( Bavaria ).
location
The church village lies in the open ground in the east of the municipality and can be reached via the state road St 2020 . It is traversed by the Lower Lachgraben , a source brook of the Drill .
history
The place name is probably of Alemannic origin and is interpreted as the courts of Snego . Schneckenhofen is first mentioned in a papal document of August 16, 1225 as Schneggenhouven in connection with the Elchingen monastery . The property in the place was very fragmented, it belonged to the margraviate Burgau and other dominions . Schneckenhofen has grown together from at least two sub-settlements, west and east of the Lower Lachgraben.
On the occasion of the Bavarian regional reform , the formerly independent community Schneckenhofen was merged with other communities to form the unitary community Bibertal on May 1, 1978.
