The Bubesheimer Bach , also popularly called Drill , is a left tributary of the Günz in the Swabian district of Günzburg . Over this it is an indirect right tributary of the Danube . The waters III. Order flows from the community of Bibertal about 10 km in a north-easterly direction to Günzburg . The name Drill comes from the Celtic and can be roughly translated as "quickly make many bends".

course

The official source of the Bubesheimer Bach is located at approx. 505 m above sea level. NN south of Emmenthal and east of Anhofen (both communities Bibertal ). In the area mentioned, some other streams and ditches arise, such as the Drillgraben , which has its origin north of Anhofen, then flows through the village of Schneckenhofen and joins the Bubesheimer Bach a little later. Due to the synonymous use of the terms Drill and Bubesheimer Bach , an exact allocation of the source cannot be determined without any doubt. After the stream has taken up a large number of ditches, all of which drain the plateau between Rieden , Anhofen and Kissendorf , it crosses under the St 2020 , the A 8 and flows through the eponymous village of Bubesheim . To the north of it it first feeds some fish ponds, after passing the boundary to Günzburg the only natural, not straightened part joins ( see also: flood ). After crossing under the Günzburg-Mindelheim railway line , after a distance of 9.91 km and an altitude difference of approx. 60 m, it flows to approx. 445 m above sea level. NN in the Günz. The stream flows right before the mouth under the artificially created and higher-lying Mühlkanal of the Butzengünz .

Flood

In Günzburg the Bubesheimer Bach originally took a different route: Coming from the west, the course turned north and flowed along today's Weißenhorner and Ulmer Strasse to Pfarrhofplatz, only to flow into the Günz there afterwards. Therefore, the water in the then directly adjacent Roman fort Gontia (Günzburg) was feared for its sudden floods. In addition to the lower town of Günzburg, Bubesheim in particular was and is the place that usually had to cope with the greatest floods. That is why in 1910 the “Cooperative for the Correction of the Bubesheimer Bach” carried out extensive straightening operations, and in 1927 corrective interventions were carried out again on the course of the brook. However, these could not counter the heavy rain that fell on July 5, 1963 near Schneckenhofen. The flood flooded the entire lower part of the village. After further, far less severe floods (e.g. 2009), flood protection measures were carried out in the entire village area in 2010 . The bed of the stream has been cleared of bushes and widened, large poplars have been felled on the embankment and the flow rate has been increased. At the moment, a possible retention basin or a flooding area south of the motorway is being considered.
