The Schranne is a neo-Gothic market hall in Weißenburg in Bavaria , a large district town in the Weissenburg-Gunzenhausen district in Central Franconia . The building is located within the listed old town of Weißenburg on the An der Schranne square , near the Kaiser-Ludwig-Brunnen . The building is registered under the monument number D-5-77-177-48 as an architectural monument in the Bavarian monument list. The building has the address An der Schranne 12.

The previous building, the church from around 700 and built in the oldest part of the old town, dedicated to St. Martin von Tours was consecrated, was profaned in the course of the Reformation in 1534. The former sacred building then served as a warehouse and sales hall. From 1863 to 1864 it was demolished and replaced by a new building built by Wilhelm Langenfaß according to plans by Eduard Bürklein . This initially served as a grain bin and from 1925 to 1987 as a fire station for the city of Weißenburg. At the beginning of the 1990s, the building was restored. Today the Schranne is used as a market hall. As an art gallery, the building also offers exhibition space where artists can show their works.

The elongated, three-aisled and two-storey saddle roof construction coincides with the former east-west facing Martinskirche. The ground floor consists of plastered masonry, the upper floor is unplastered with bricks and has a gable . There is a tower with a pointed helmet on the western front of the historicized building . The pilaster strips and dividing elements are made of sandstone .
