The weak lady's slipper ( Cypripedium debile ) is a species of the genus Cypripedium in the orchid family (Orchidaceae).

description

The weak lady's slipper is a perennial plant with a short rhizome that reaches heights of 10 to 30 centimeters. Two leaves are almost opposite in the middle of the stem. They are broadly oval to heart-shaped and often wavy and finely ciliated at the edge. The nerves end at the tip of the leaf. The inflorescence is nodding and has a single flower . The bracts are linear. The ovary is bare. The outer and inner tepals are light green or yellow-green and drawn purple at the base. The lip is white and also drawn purple. The staminodium is round to oval. The resulting capsule fruit is narrow oval.

Flowering time is from May to June, the fruits ripen in August and September.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.

Occurrence

The weak lady's slipper occurs in western and central China , on Taiwan and in Japan in mixed deciduous forests and in leaf litter in shady places at altitudes of 1000 to 3400 meters.

The weak lady's slipper is rarely used as an ornamental plant for bog beds and groups of trees.
