The Black Tie-Antwren ( Myrmotherula urosticta ), Syn. Formicivora urosticta , one within the family of Antbirds (Thamnophilidae) for generic Myrmotherula .

The species is endemic to Brazil along the southeast coastal region.

The distribution area includes tropical or subtropical moist lowland forest up to about 500 m height. The white-flanked ant hatchers ( Myrmotherula axillaris ) are also found in the same habitat .

The type epithet comes from ancient Greek οὐρά ourá , German 'tail' and ancient Greek στικτος stiktos , German ' flecked , dotted' .

features

The bird is 9 to 10 cm tall, the main characteristic is the black tail with a wide white tail band. The male is gray with a paler underside and usually invisible white interscapular blotch. The elytra are black with white tips, throat and upper chest area is black. The female is distinguished by its pale gray head and upper side, the wing covers are also gray, the throat white, the underside pale cinnamon-colored, the flanks are gray.

The species is monotypical .

voice

The singing is described as a sequence of tones lasting 5 to 8 seconds and is reminiscent of the subspecies M. l. garbei of the silver ant hatchet ( Myrmotherula longipennis ).

Way of life

The food consists of insects , probably also spiders , which are hunted individually, in pairs or in family groups, mostly in mixed hunting communities, preferably at 3 to 10 m above the ground.

The breeding season is not known.

Hazardous situation

The stock is considered to be endangered ( vulnerable ) due to habitat loss .
