Schwarzenbichl Chapel

The Schwarzenbichl Chapel is built at an altitude of 1245 m west of the village of Seetal in the market town of Tamsweg in Lungau in the Austrian state of Salzburg .

The Mariä Namen chapel is located in the area of ​​the Seetal parish, Tamsweg deanery in the Archdiocese of Salzburg . It is a listed building .

history

The chapel on Schwarzenbichl (hill) was built in 1761 under Vicar Franz X. Radschin as thanks for the rescue after an attack by robbers. The Schwarzenbichl was created from an Ice Age moraine , at the location of the chapel is the watershed on the way from Tamsweg to Seetal.

The chapel is important as a local pilgrimage destination. On Trinity Saturday, pilgrims from the neighboring Krakautal in Styria go on a foot pilgrimage to the chapel. A festive procession leads from the Seetal parish church to the chapel (Prangtag) on the feast of Mary's Name (September 12 ).

Miraculous image

The south-facing chapel is a little higher up next to the road. The original chapel from 1761 was decorated with frescoes by Gregor Lederwasch . In 1901 the chapel was enlarged in the neo-Gothic style. Inside there is a representation of the miraculous image of Mariazell .
