Life

Ignaz von Kürsinger came from a family ennobled in 1627. He went to Linz to school, studied from 1814 at Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmuenster philosophy and 1816-1819 Jus at the University of Vienna . After completing his studies, he entered the civil service. His career began in the Innviertel , from 1834 he became a nurse in Mittersill , from 1842 in Schärding . Taken down by an intrigue, he lived in Salzburg from 1847 onwards. In 1848 he was sent by the city and state of Salzburg as a non-attached member of the Frankfurt National Assembly . From 1850 until his retirement in 1858 he was editor of the Salzburger Zeitung .

As the caretaker of Mittersill, he had a path built to the Krimml waterfalls in Krimml around 1835 so that travelers could see more of the falls without much effort, "and there is a tourist and painter's house". In addition to the renovation of the teaching system, he also took care of the restoration of church, school and parish buildings, the draining of the swampy valley floor and the regulation of the Salzach in Oberpinzgau by building the Salzach dam between Mittersill and Hollersbach , the so-called Kürsingerdamm .

Kürsinger became known as the organizer and member of a group of 40 people who successfully climbed the Großvenediger for the first time on September 3, 1841 . After all, 26 men reached the summit, including, in addition to Kürsinger, Paul Rohrgger, Anton von Ruthner and the district doctor Franz Spitaler. He laid the foundation stone for tourism in the region, and in 1841 he was made an honorary citizen of Mittersill. As early as 1842 he had his first refuge built in Obersulzbachtal not far from the place where the Kürsingerhütte named after him stands today.

Awards

Kürsinger has received several awards for its charitable work. He received the Albrechts Order from the King of Saxony and the gold medal from the Munich Association against Cruelty to Animals . The Mittersill and Tamsweg markets made him an honorary citizen and the Oberpinzgau region made an honorary farmer .
