The black-headed bearded runner ( Leistus terminatus ) is a beetle from the family of ground beetles (Carabidae).
features
The beetles reach a body length of 6.5 to 7.5 millimeters. Their body is red-yellow in color, but the head is black, unlike the similar common bearded man ( Leistus ferrugineus ). The abdomen is also black, the reddish-yellow-brown wing covers ( elytra ) are slim, oval shaped, widened slightly back and carry longitudinal grooves. Their tips are usually black in color. The heart-shaped pronotum has only a narrow side edge and is also reddish-yellow-brown. The antennae and legs are colored yellow-orange.

Occurrence and way of life
The animals come from northern France across central and northern Europe , east to Siberia . They are absent in southern Europe and are also rarer in southern central Europe. They live in reed-covered swamps, moors and swamp forests, in the north also in moist deciduous and coniferous forests and are rare. The overwintering takes place as a larva .
