The common bearded beetle or rust-colored bearded beetle ( Leistus ferrugineus ) is a beetle from the family of ground beetles (Carabidae).
features
The beetles reach a body length of 5.5 to 7 millimeters. Your body is completely red-yellow in color, the head, the heart-shaped pronotum and occasionally the area around the shield region are slightly darker than the rest of the body. The antennae and legs are a little lighter in color. The upper wings ( elytra ) are oval shaped and have longitudinal grooves. The pronotum is somewhat narrower than that of the black-headed beard runner ( Leistus terminatus ), which can also be distinguished from the common bearded runner by its black head.

Occurrence and way of life
The animals are found in Europe , east across the Caucasus to Siberia . They are also widespread in the British Isles and Ireland and in the far north, but they are absent in southern and southwestern Europe. The beetles live in warm and sandy places, but also on loamy-sandy soils and moist fallow land, such as in forests, fields, heaths and steppes and also in gardens, from lowlands to high altitudes. You can find them on dead plant parts and on bushes, they are not uncommon. Mating takes place in autumn.
