Scipione Pannocchieschi d'Elci (born June 28, 1598 in Siena , † April 12, 1670 in Rome ) was an Italian Catholic cardinal and archbishop .

biography

He was born in Siena around 1598 as the son of Count Orso d'Elci and Lucrezia di Scipione Bulgarini. He was ordained a priest on May 3, 1629. On July 28, 1631 he was appointed Bishop of Pienza and held this office until he became Archbishop of Pisa on March 3, 1636 . Under Pope Innocent X he was Apostolic Nuncio of the Republic of Venice and under Pope Alexander VII to Emperor Ferdinand III. . He later became governor of the Urbino embassy . From 1646 to 1658 he was apostolic nuncio in Austria.

On April 9, 1657 he was made Cardinal In pectore and published a year later. In 1663 he resigned as Archbishop of Pisa and moved to Rome. He celebrated two Pisan synods, 1639 and 1659, and participated in two conclaves, 1667 and 1669-1670 . From May 6, 1658 until his death on April 12, 1670 he was cardinal priest of Santa Sabina . He is buried in Pisa Cathedral , in the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament.
