Sciuro-hypnum reflexum (synonym Brachythecium reflexum (Strong) Chimp.) Is a deciduous moss species from the Brachytheciaceae family . The German names include : Kleines Neuhaarblattmoos , Rückgebogenes Schweifchenastmoos , Kleines Berg-Kurzbüchsenmoos .

features

Sciuro-hypnum reflexum forms yellow-green to dark green lawns. The prostrate trunks that adhere to the substrate with clusters of rhizoids are more or less regularly pinnate, and the branches up to 6 millimeters long are arched. The loosely arranged stem leaves are rather suddenly drawn out into an awl tip from a broad, triangular, heart-shaped base, not wrinkled, the edges usually finely sawn, the leaf base on the stem runs down far. The rib extends to the tip of the leaf. The densely arranged branch leaves are lanceolate, gradually sharply pointed and, especially at the top, more strongly serrate at the edges. The lamina cells are rather thick-walled in the middle of the leaf, linear-rhombic, rectangular at the base of the leaf and square to rectangular in the leaf wings.

The species is autocratic (antheridia and archegonia on different branches on the same plant). It is often fruitful and the spores ripen in winter. The 10 to 15 millimeter long Seta is rough, the horizontal capsule is oval, slightly raised and slightly curved, the lid is conical. The finely papillary spores are 12 to 18 micrometers in size.

Location claims and distribution

The moss grows on a neutral to slightly acidic base in partially shaded areas in montane to subalpine locations, especially on silicate rock or near the ground on trees and on Kummholz, also on humus and dead wood.

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland it is widespread and often common in the silicate mountains, but seldom in the limestone regions and in the lowlands. Worldwide there are deposits in Europe, Asia and North America.
