Sebastian Rochford , also Seb Rochford, (born November 20, 1973 in Aberdeen ) is a British composer, drummer and band leader (crossover jazz, experimental music).

Live and act

Rochford comes from a musical family. He played drums from the age of ten and studied drums and composition in Newcastle. In 1997 he moved to London. Together with saxophonist Pete Wareham , he ran the punk jazz and fusion band Acoustic Ladyland in the 2000s, which won the BBC's Jazz Awards in 2005 and released four albums (including Camouflage 2004, Last Chance Disco 2005) and existed between 1999 and 2010. In 2004 he founded with Pete Wareham and the saxophonist Mark Lockheart , the bassist Tom Herbert (who also played in Acoustic Ladyland ) and Leafcutter John on the electronics the band Polar Bear in the crossover area of ​​jazz, punk, groove, electronica and experimental Music. Rochford has been married to saxophonist Matana Roberts since 2016 .

In 2004 he received the BBC Jazz Award for best newcomer (Rising Star). He was nominated twice for the Mercury Prize .
