Sebastião Chinguane Marcos Mabote (born May 18, 1941 in Chicumbane , Gaza Province , † January 27, 2001 in Bilene Macia , Gaza Province) was a Mozambican colonel general and politician .

Mabote was in 1963 a member of the previous year of Eduardo Mondlane , Samora Machel and Joaquim Chissano founded Frente since Libertação de Moçambique (FRELIMO) and increased during the independence struggle one of the leading commanders of the liberation movement and was the end of the war of independence against Portugal chief of FRELIMO military operations .

However, after only three weeks of trial, the Supreme Court acquitted him . Mabote accused right-wing opportunists within the armed forces of wanting to harm him.

After demobilization, he retired from active military service in 1994 and was elected member of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique as a candidate for FRELIMO in the general elections in 1994 and was re-elected as representative of his home province of Gaza in 1999.

Mabote, who was also the head of the Defense and Security Department at FRELIMO, died on January 27, 2001 in a swimming accident in the Bilene Macia lagoon .
