Section is, especially in the armed forces of Anglophone countries and their former colonies, the name for a military sub-unit with a staff of approx. 7 to 12 people, which is comparable to the "group" in the German Armed Forces, the Swiss Army or the Austrian Armed Forces . In some anglophone armed forces, such units can alternatively be called squads .

By contrast, in France and in armed forces that are based on French military structures, the Section is a sub-unit equivalent to a train . In the French armed forces, for example, the section can consist of up to 39 men in four groups.
