Seddin is a district of the municipality Seddiner See in the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark with about 1130 inhabitants (2006) on an area of about 528 hectares. It is located on the south bank of the Großer Seddiner See in the Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park , a large part of the areas belonging to the village are part of the Nuthetal - Beelitzer Sander landscape protection area .

history

The place name is likely to come from the Slavic word zid for 'liquid'.

The first human settlements on the Großer Seddiner See were more than 10,000 years ago, as archaeological finds show. Today's Seddin probably went back to an Elbe Slavic village around today's church square. The farming and fishing village was laid out as a round , the old town center was retained in its structure. The Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 mentioned 20  hooves for Sedyn .

On December 6, 1993, the previously independent municipalities of Kähnsdorf, Neuseddin (where the Seddin marshalling yard is also located) and Seddin voluntarily merged to form the municipality of Seddiner See .

Attractions

The village church was built in 1735, and a year later a cemetery was created by the church. The last burial on this took place in 1912. In 1945 the place was closed as a cemetery. In 1996 the square was redesigned and the four remaining graves were removed.

The farmsteads once stood in a circle to each other and were clay half-timbered buildings. Some are still preserved, such as the listed thatched roof house on Hauptstraße.

Seddiner See

Furthermore, the lake is a popular destination in the region. In summer, the Seddiner See, the Kähnsdorfer See and the beach at the campsite offer swimming opportunities.
