Seebüll House and Garden

Seebüll ( Danish Søbøl , North Frisian : Seebel ) is a district of the Neukirchen municipality in the north of the Schleswig-Holstein district of North Friesland .

geography

Seebüll is about four kilometers northeast of Neukirchen and about one kilometer from the Danish border. To the west is the Hüllenofter Tief, to the north the Wiedau with the Ruttebüller Tief (Danish: Rudbøl Sø ). The local homesteads are widely scattered throughout the march .

history

The ancestors of the Nobel Prize laureate Theodor Mommsen lived on the Nordhüllenoft farm. In 1926 Ada and Emil Nolde acquired the then undeveloped terp , which they called Seebüll . With the help of his friend, architect Georg Rieve , Nolde planned Haus Seebüll there according to his own ideas . With its clear, geometric shapes, the flat roof building made of Bockhorn clinker bricks echoes the Bauhaus style . However, the arrangement of the windows and two triangular bay windows with roofs in the shape of haystacks create an idiosyncratic effect. By 1937, a studio house and a picture room as well as a thatched garden house were built as part of the house. The garden was laid out as a cottage garden with dahlias and asters, also according to the ideas of the Noldes. The basic forms are capital A and E. After Ada Nolde's death in 1946, a burial place was laid out, in which Emil Nolde was also buried in 1956. After the death of the house was Foundation Seebüll Ada and Emil Nolde as Nolde Museum, officially Nolde Foundation Seebüll , opened. The garden can be visited by museum guests.

The house and garden were listed as a historical monument in 1996.

Economy and Infrastructure

The area is dominated by agriculture, mainly through pasture farming . Tourism is concentrated in the Nolde Museum and the adjacent Nolde Garden.
