The Seibu Tetsudō KK ( Japanese 西武 鉄 道 株式会社 , Seibu tetsudō kabushiki-gaisha , dt. Railway of West Musashi , Eng. Seibu Railway Co., Ltd. ) is a Japanese railway company .

history

The beginnings of Seibu Tetsudō go back to the year 1894. That year, the Kawagoe Tetsudō began operating between Kokubunji and Kawagoe . This acquired a railway company called Seibu Tetsudō in 1921 and expanded the route network to Takadanobaba . Today this route forms the Seibu Shinjuku Line.

Today's Seibu Tetsudō was founded on May 7, 1912 as Musashino Tetsudō . This operated the route network of today's Ikebukuro line and merged in 1945 with the old Seibu Tetsudō , which operated between Shinjuku and Ogikubo . The name Seibu continued to be used and the route network was extended to the western suburbs of Tokyo. Shinjuku and Ikebukuro lines are still operated separately today; they only cross at Tokorozawa station .

Class 001 is the flagship of the Seibu Tetsudō and is used under the Laview brand on the Ikebukuro line as a “special express” (Japanese 特急 Tokkyū ). Together with the older class 10000, which is operated under the name New Red Arrow on the Ikebukuro and Shinjuku lines, this offers a comfortable alternative to the usual trains with guaranteed seats and 2 + 2 seating during rush hour . The logo of Seibu Tetsudō forms a stylized apple from the initial “ 西 ” ( West ). The two rings are supposed to represent wheels and thus the train, while the apple is supposed to symbolize fertility and thus development in harmony with nature.
