The German Alpine Association, Section Hamburg and Niederelbe e. V. ( DAV Hamburg for short ) is part of the German Alpine Club . The club has 23,080 members (as of December 31, 2019) and is therefore one of the sports clubs in Germany with the largest number of members , the fifth-largest section of the German Alpine Club and by far the largest DAV section in northern Germany. After Hamburger SV , sports fun , company sports association Hamburg and FC St. Pauli he is the fifth largest club Hamburg .
history
The Hamburg Section was founded on October 8, 1875. The Schaubachhütte in the Ortler area was acquired in 1888 . The Berglhütte , also in the Ortler area near Sulden, was opened in 1897. The separate DAV Turner section, which merged with the Hamburg section in 2005, was founded in 1910 by the Hamburg gymnastics association from 1816 . The Niederelbe section, which also merged with the Hamburg section in 2005, was founded in 1911. The hiking group was founded in 1911. As a result of the First World War , both huts were lost in 1918. Acquisition of the Ramolhaus at an altitude of 3006 m in the Ötztal. The youth group was founded in 1926. The ski home (today Hamburger Skihütte ) on the Schlossalm in the Gastein Valley was bought in 1940. In 1947 the local group Cuxhaven was founded. In 1952 the local group Lüneburg , which merged with the main association in 2012, was founded. The Harzhütte was acquired from Preussag AG in 1973 and is now called the Sepp-Ruf-Hütte . In 1976 the local branch of Stade was founded. In 1982 the local group Soltau was founded. In 1984 the Hameln Section sold the Hohensteinhütte to the Hamburg Section . In 1994 the local group Nordheide was founded. In 2005 the Hamburg section merged with the Niederelbe section , whereby the Niederelbehütte was acquired. In 2006, the Turner section was incorporated into the Hamburg and Niederelbe section, and Hall 1 was also put into operation, and Hall 2 was then put into operation in 2011.

Facilities
The club describes the club's own climbing center as the largest climbing hall in northern Germany. In addition to bouldering opportunities, the 3 climbing halls (with approx. 3800 m² climbing surface) offer routes of all levels of difficulty .

The branch office is located directly at the climbing center.
The club's activities are covered in 24 groups, including local groups in Cuxhaven (founded in 1947), Lüneburg (founded in 1952), Nordheide (founded in 1994) and Stade (founded in 1976).
