Wilhelm Marmé

Wilhelm Heinrich Theodor Ernst Marmé (born February 19, 1832 in Dierdorf , † June 27, 1897 in Göttingen ) was a German pharmacologist . Marmé was Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Göttingen .

Life

Marmé studied medicine at the universities in Bonn , Heidelberg , Berlin and Breslau . At the University of Wroclaw , he received his doctorate in 1857 with the dissertation De lucis vi experimenta nonnulla as a doctor of medicine . His doctoral thesis deals with an experimental study of the effect of light on the course of biological processes, which he carried out under the direction of Jacob Moleschott , a lecturer at Heidelberg University.

In 1858, Marmé passed the state examination and completed his habilitation in 1865 at the Medical Faculty of the University of Göttingen as a lecturer in pharmacology. But he also gave lectures on medical electricity and the history of medicine. In 1872 he became associate professor of pharmacology in Göttingen. A year later, Marmé was a co-founder and, from 1875, the first director of the Pharmacological Institute at Göttingen University. The institute was initially housed in the Wrisbergisches Haus, in 1877 in the old auditorium building and in 1892 in the Ernst-August-Hospital . In 1875 he was given a full professorship in pharmacology at the University of Göttingen.

In 1892 he was awarded the title of secret medical councilor for his services . Wilhelm Marmé died on June 27, 1897, at the age of 65, in Göttingen.

Marmé was the author of numerous specialist publications. He wrote part of his work together with Theodor Husemann and Georg Meissner . He published numerous smaller works in the news of the Royal Society of Sciences in Göttingen . In 1880 the outline of the lectures on Pharmacognosy of the Plant and Animal Kingdom and in 1886 the textbook on Pharmacognosy of the Plant and Animal Kingdom appeared as independent works .
