founding
The Karlsruhe section , founded on January 31, 1870, is one of the oldest of the German Alpine Club ; it was founded only 9 months after the main club was founded with 16 members.
The founding members were personalities from Karlsruhe such as Philipp Platz (painter), Victor von Scheffel (poet) and Robert Gerwig (builder of the Black Forest Railway). Philipp Platz became the first chairman of the section. The establishment was published in the Karlsruher Tagblatt .
history
The section was founded on January 31, 1870 by prominent citizens and personalities. Baron von Teuffel became chairman of the section in 1877. The Austrian Alpine Association OeAV was re-established after the end of the Second World War and until 1952 managed the assets and property (huts) of the DAV in trust. The Karlsruhe section was one of 234 sections after the re-establishment of the DAV in 1952, which was limited to West Germany and West Berlin. The German Alpine Association received the huts back from the OeAV in 1958. War and post-war damage was repaired. In 1987, the Baden-Baden / Murgtal section signed a sponsorship for the wild animals house. The solar system at the Hochwildehaus was put into operation in 1992. Section member Alex Schlönvogt succeeded in climbing K2 (8611 m) in the Karakoram in 1994 as part of an expedition without an oxygen device . From May 19 to 21, 1995, the Karlsruhe Section celebrated its 125th anniversary. On May 7th and 8th, 2005 the German Sport Climbing Cup was held in the Karlsruhe DAV climbing center "Art of Climbing".
