The 2017/18 season was the 62nd season of the Ekstraliga , the highest Polish ice hockey division , and the 82nd edition of the Polish ice hockey championship. GKS Tychy became champion for the third time in its club history .

mode

In the main round, each of the eleven teams play a total of 22 games. Each team receives three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after overtime or shootout , one point for a defeat after overtime or shootout and zero points for a defeat after regular time. The best six teams take part directly in the playoffs for the championship title. The teams in places seven to ten played in a pre-playoff round according to the " Best of Three " mode from two further quarter-finals, while the losers in the pre-playoffs played off the relegated team. The team of the youth academy of the Polish association Szkoła Mistrzostwa Sportowego did not have to take part in this elimination round - although the last one.

In the playoffs from the quarter finals and the playouts, the individual rounds are in the "Best of Seven" mode. The two losers in the semi-finals play third place in the "Best of Three" mode.
