The 1960/61 season was the 6th season of the Ekstraliga , the highest Polish ice hockey league, and the 26th season of the Polish ice hockey championship. Master was for the tenth time in the club's history Legia Warszawa . ŁKS Łódź and Fortuna Wyry relegated to the 2nd division.

In the main round, the league was divided into two regional groups, with the north group with seven teams being smaller than the south group with eight teams. The eight best teams in the country qualified for the national championship, with the four best teams playing in the final round for the championship title and the other four teams in the national championship playing in the relegation round for relegation. The last two placed in the relegation round were relegated to the 2nd division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
