The 1996/97 season was the 62nd season of the Polish Ice Hockey League , the highest Polish ice hockey division . Podhale Nowy Targ became champions for the 17th time in the club's history .

mode

First, the 13 teams spent a common main round. The six best-placed teams qualified for the final round, whose participants all qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played off. The remaining seven teams played a qualifying round, the top two of which also qualified for the playoffs. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
