Seles is a city in western Angola . The place was called Vila Nova de Seles until independence from Portugal in 1975 .

Seles is the seat of a district of the same name ( Municipio ) in the province of Cuanza Sul . The neighboring districts are, starting clockwise in the north: Conda , Cela , Cassongue and Sumbe .
The district consists of three municipalities (Comunas):
In total, around 120,000 people live in Seles County (2013 estimates), divided into 16 urban districts (Bairros), 248 villages (Aldeias) and 19 smaller towns (Povoações). From now on, the 2014 census should provide reliable population data.
