The Sellbach is about one kilometer long right tributary of Odenbaches in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Kaiserslautern in the area of the municipality Otterbach Otter Mountain belong to local community Schallodenbach .

course

The Sellbach arises in the natural area of the Lichtenberg ridges of the North Palatinate Uplands from two spring branches at the southern foot of the Galgen hill ( 444  m above sea  level ) a good 600 m north-northeast of Schallodenbach . The right source branch rises at an altitude of 394  m in an agricultural zone of the Kreuzhofer Straß estate . It initially flows about 200 m in a southerly direction and unites in the Hinterer Buchgraben tub with the left source branch coming from the Unterer Wickelwald tub.

The brook then runs southwards through the fields and meadows of the Gewannes Vorderer Buchgraben at the western foot of the Reiserberg ( 460  m ), accompanied by thick wood . In the hallway Im Sellbach , the stream, which is only sparsely overgrown with bushes, changes to the south-south-west and then turns back to the south shortly after east of the village of Schallodenbach.

It moves, now heavily overgrown with bushes and trees, at a distance of about 70 m along the eastern edge of the village, then disappears north of Wickelhöfer Straße piped into the underground and finally flows underground at a height of 307.8  m east of Schallodenbach from the right into the Odenbach coming from the east .

nature and environment

The Oberlauftal of the Sellbach with its naturally overgrown, fine sediment-rich steep banks as well as the wet meadow there and the adjacent large orchards are a valuable protected biotope, which is home to numerous animal and plant species.
