Selma - wrapped in longing is a music album by The World Quintet . It contains twelve poems by the poet Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger , set to music by David Klein and his quintet , which are performed by well-known German interpreters.

History of origin

A few years ago David Klein came across the poems of Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger. In the long-term project he was able to win over well-known German singers from different generations to give Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger a voice again over sixty years after her death. The production of the CD took a good five years , including negotiations with the Hoffmann und Campe publishing house about the setting rights, contact with the interpreters, the composition, the orchestration of the symphony orchestra and the recordings. The CD was first released on November 25, 2005 on the small independent label Voice of Joy distributed by Just Records Babelsberg , before it was re-released on March 23, 2007 on Ariola / SonyBMG.

Music genre

The compositions fall back on various musical stylistic devices, on klezmer music , jazz , pop , but also oriental sounds.

Cover

The cover artwork on the CD corresponds to the motif that was also featured in the original handwritten collection of poems "Blossom Harvest" by Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger. A colorful bouquet of different flowers on a blue background with cracks and creases.

School project

From the beginning, the project was conceived as an overall concept, so that the nationwide school project “Longing for the Future” was started in cooperation with step21 , a non-profit youth initiative for tolerance and responsibility. step21, in cooperation with the Texterschmiede Hamburg, launched the poetry competition “What is Selma's business?”. In addition, step21 goes directly to schools to work with the young people with the pedagogical materials that have been developed for “Selma” and with the help of her texts and her story.
