The small nature reserve Senkelbachquellen is located in the municipality of Simmerath , west of Schmidt and south of Vossenack .

description

The area includes the headwaters of the Senkelbach with several springs. The most important are three individual springs rich in milkweed and further groundwater outlets in an alder stand . The southern source lies within a spruce forest . The protection and development goal is the preservation of the springs and the source streams. The aim is to gently convert the spruce forests into near-natural hardwood stands. Forestry use should be avoided.

Protection purpose

The purpose is to preserve and develop the populations of the following wild animal and plant species and their habitats in accordance with the Habitats Directive: beaver , great mouse-eared bat , kingfisher , pond bat . The area is also important for the lung gentian and leg breaker , and the conservation of habitats for plant and animal species endangered according to the Red List in North Rhine-Westphalia is important.
