Sequel (German sequel ) is a German Irish folk - rock group from Munich . The group has existed since 1998 and currently consists of seven members.
style
The music of Sequel is composed of old traditional Irish songs that have been modernized and rearranged with rock elements such as drums and electric guitar and combines the typical Irish folk rock with influences of the pogues or levelers , underlaid with original compositions in folk rock -Style. Like most Irish traditionals, the songs tell of everyday Irish life: about whiskey, women and love, the evening in the pub, the longing for the distance, the Great Famine of 1845–1849 and the Irish struggle for freedom 1916–1921 .
history
Sequel was created in 1998 from parts of the previous band Drowning Bagpipes . Supplemented by drums , accordion and bass , the result was a rather folk -oriented music that developed over the years from folk rock with world music influences and crossover elements to today's fun folk .
The band has existed in an almost unchanged formation since its formation. Only in the summer of 2002 did the then guitarist Markus “Berschl” Berkmüller leave the band, while Sequel developed into an eight-piece band through the newcomers Christian “Chris” Geller (bass) in 1999 and Axel “Woodstock” Orlovius (electric guitar) in 2008. After the death of "Basi" Eberle (violin, mandolin) in 2016, Martina Steenbock took over the violin part - also in 2016 - while Dominik "Doml" Hartstein has also played the mandolin since then. Axel "Woodstock" Orlovius has not played an active role since 2015, but occasionally still takes on guest appearances.
In the beginning the band appeared more at regional events, appearances at national festivals and events followed from 2003, such as at the 10th International Music and Dance Festival in Bad Salzungen (2003) or at the 6th Irish Folk Open Air Festival in Poyenberg ( 2006).
In May 1999 Sequel released the first CD Good Tradition , in 2002 the CD Set the Sails was created , followed in 2006 by the third release LiveStyle . While the first CD Good Tradition and the CD Set The Sails were produced and published in-house, the LiveStyle CD was produced in collaboration with the record label ELROI Record Productions.
