Sergei Ivanovich Filatov

Sergei Ivanovich Filatow ( Russian Сергей Иванович Филатов ; born September 25, 1926 , † April 3, 1997 ) was a Soviet dressage rider and Olympic champion .

At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome , he won the gold medal in dressage on the Akhal-Teke black stallion Absent. Four years later he won bronze again with the same horse in the individual and with the team. Absent was the son of Arab, the horse on which Marshal Zhukov held the victory parade in Moscow's Red Square in 1945 to mark the end of World War II .

This was the first victory for the Soviet Union in dressage as well as for the Akhal-Teke horse breed at the Olympic Games.
