Sergio Lanza

Sergio Lanza (born June 18, 1945 in Morbegno , Sondrio Province , Lombardy , † September 20, 2012 in Rome ) was a Catholic theologian .

Life

Sergio Lanza received after his philosophical and theological training in the seminary in Como on 22 June 1969, the priestly ordination . After graduating in Catholic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University (1970) and in Biblical Studies at the Pontifical Biblical Institute (1973), he obtained a licentiate in education from the University of Urbino (1978). In 1983 he started with a dissertation entitled The Problem of the Historical Jesus in Joachim Jeremias' thinking. A methodological study at the Lateran University in Rome for Dr. theol. PhD .

Lanza was professor of pastoral theology and catechesis at the Pontifical Lateran University , director of the Pontifical Pastoral Institute and dean of the theological faculty. Lanza was the author of numerous scientific and theological works.

He was an advisor to the Congregation for the Clergy and the Pontifical Council for Culture, and for many years President of Finetica , a banking advisory body focused on social teaching at the Pontifical Lateran University and the Luigi Bocconi University of Economics in Milan . Lanza was committed to the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Foundation .

The Permanent Council of the Italian Bishops' Conference appointed him on March 18, 2008 as Ecclesiastical Assessor and General Chaplain of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore , the largest non-state university in Europe.

On December 7, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . as advisor to the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization . On July 17, 2012, Benedict XVI awarded him the honorary title of chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ).

He died of complications from a respiratory disease in the Gemelli Clinic in Rome.
