Severin Schwendener

Severin Schwendener (* 1983 in Lengwil , Canton Thurgau ) is a Swiss author and journalist .

Life

Severin Schwendener grew up in a small Thurgau village of Lengwil on Lake Constance , around six kilometers from the German border. He attended the canton school in Kreuzlingen .

After graduating from high school in 2001, he studied biology at the ETH Zurich , where he completed his studies with a university diploma in 2005. After studying biology, he worked in various research laboratories at ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich from 2005 to 2011 . He was a doctoral candidate at the Institute for Behavioral Neurobiology at ETH Zurich, where he was working on his doctoral project in the field of virus technology. However, he was unable to submit a dissertation as he received no further financial support for his research activities after the three-year position had expired. Since 2015 he has been working full-time at the Canton of Zurich in the field of biosafety . Schwendener lives in Müllheim in the canton of Thurgau.

Schwendener was already active as a writer in his school days. In the sixth grade, he and two friends wrote a play for the school closing ceremony. Since leaving high school, he continued to write in his free time.

Schwendener writes short stories, prose and novels. Schwendener published crime novels for young people and adults. His books have appeared in German and Swiss publishers. The Swiss publisher edition 8 published the crime novels “Falsche Freunde” (2006), “Schein & Heilig” (2010) and “Schach & Matt” (2013). In the publishing Beltz & Gelberg youth thrillers "Silent Poison" was published (2009) and "Silent Fear" (2014). Some of his books have also appeared as audio books and e-books .

He also works as a freelance journalist. a. for the Thurgauer Zeitung and the St. Galler Tagblatt . For the St. Galler Tagblatt he also wrote crime stories for the short crime series “Schuss & Folgerung”.

In 2007 he read at the Solothurn Literature Days .

Awards

In 2011 he won third place in the student award of the Swiss Sunday newspaper with a text about Alzheimer's disease . He was awarded the 6th Zurich Crime Prize 2013 for his novel “Schach & Matt”.
