Severny (grape variety)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Severny is a red wine variety , an interspecific new breed between Seianetze Malengra and Vitis amurensis . The crossing of the hybrid vine took place in 1936 at the viticulture research institute Magarach in Rostov-on-Don in Russia by Ya. I. Potapenko and E. Zakharova. It is found on the east coast of the USA, e.g. B. cultivated in the Finger Lakes region in the state of New York , in Russia and Canada .

Synonyms: Severnii, Severnyi

Lineage: Seianetze Malengra × Vitis amurensis : the variety Seianetze Malengra is an open pollinated cross with the variety Malingre . The father variety is therefore unknown.

Descendants

Due to the influence of the wild grape Vitis amurensis, which comes from the Amur Valley on the Russian-Chinese border, it was very frost-resistant and was a cross-breeding partner in some new breeds such as B. of the Saperavi Severnyi variety . In the Czech Republic it was mistakenly believed that this variety served the vine breeder V. Kraus in Lednice as the basis for further new breeds. In Germany , however, it was not included in the Bronner , Baron , Cabernet Carbon , Prior and Solaris breeds (see the explanation in the article Saperavi Severnyi). Nevertheless, Severny is an important component in finding new varieties for a cool wine-growing climate.
