The Shōji Lake ( Japanese 精進湖 , Shōji-ko , dt. "Fastensee"), also Shōjiko , is a natural maar lake of volcanic origin near the northern flank of Mount Fuji in Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan . It belongs to the Five Fuji Lakes and is located in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park . It is located at a height of approx. 900 m , its area is approx. 0.51 km² and at its deepest point it reaches approx. 15.20 m. It is under special protection of nature and monuments , but fishing and canoeing are allowed. The village of Fujikawaguchiko and the well-known Aokigahara forest are located near the lake .
