content

Zach is an aspiring artist who gave up his dream of going to art school to take care of his family. This consists of his sick father, his sister Jeanne and their five-year-old son Cody. In his free time, Zach surfs, paints or meets up with his best friend Gabe or his “every now and then” friend Tori.

When Gabe's older brother Shaun comes home intermittently, he and Zach become friends. Shaun supports Zach in not just giving up his dreams and applying to the art school one more time. The pure friendship develops into a love relationship. Jeanne warns Zach that Shaun is gay when she learns they both spend a lot of time together. She also forbids Cody to have contact with Shaun. The argument with Jeanne and Zach's sense of duty to his family strains his relationship with Shaun so much that he breaks up with him.

Zach receives a call that he will be accepted after his renewed application for the art school. The application was sent by Shaun without his knowledge. At the same time, Jeanne asks Zach to take care of Cody so that she and her boyfriend can move to another state where they have both found better jobs. He reconciles with Shaun and says that the first time he applied, he turned it down out of a sense of duty to his family. With Shaun's support, he manages to get Jeanne to let Cody live with them permanently.
