Shemi Tzur

Shemi Tzur (born January 21, 1945 or March 17, 1946 ) is an Israeli diplomat .

From 1974 to 1979 Tzur was used in South Africa . After three years as Vice Consul in Johannesburg , he served as Second Secretary at the Israeli Embassy in Pretoria for two years . In 1981 he was Vice Consul at the Israeli Consulate General in Istanbul . After his return to Israel, he worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the information and media department until 1985. From 1985 to 1989 Tzur was consul in Sydney . During this time he held the post of Israeli ambassador to Fiji temporarily for one month .

He held his next post outside Israel in 1993 when he opened the Israeli embassy in Uzbekistan as chargé d'affaires (ad interim) . In 1994 Tzur was appointed ambassador to Cyprus . He held this post until 2000. During his tenure in Cyprus there was a deepening of diplomatic relations between the two states, which among other things led to the opening of the Cypriot embassy in Israel in 1995.

During his further diplomatic career he was ambassador to Finland from August 2003 to October 2007 with simultaneous accreditation as a non-resident ambassador for Estonia , from May 2008 to September of the same year ambassador to Angola with simultaneous accreditation as non-resident ambassador for Mozambique and from January 2009 to March 2010 non-resident ambassador for Armenia , Tajikistan and Turkmenistan based in Jerusalem . April 2010 he was appointed Israeli ambassador to New Zealand . He is also the non-resident ambassador for Tonga , Samoa , the Cook Islands and Niue .

Tzur is married and has three children. Since April 2006 he has had the personal rank of ambassador.
